About the technique:
Barro Canelo is one of the traditional pottery styles associated with Tonalá, Jalisco. Its name comes from canela, or cinnamon, referring to the warm reddish-brown and ochre tones characteristic of the finished clay. Pieces are traditionally made and decorated by hand using natural, earthy pigments and are often burnished to create a smooth surface.

This traditional botellón features a rounded vessel with a small clay cup designed to rest upside down over the opening. This form has historically been used in the Tonalá region as a water vessel.
